Testimonials

100% of attendees would recommend our work to their friends

“The Neuroscience and Yoga Online Conference was fascinating. I expected to learn about the effects of yoga on the brain and nervous system, and this conference went well beyond my expectations! The presenters were extremely knowledgeable and graciously answered everyone’s questions. The yoga classes were not to be missed as they were taught by world class yoga masters.”

“It was a beautiful event and I was impressed with the quality of the content and the scientific approach. Because I'm based in the UK, I watched the live Saturday presentations at midnight but I must say, I stayed with you all the way to the end and I didn't want to leave! I was so happy to listen to the modern voice of yoga. Thank you very much for that and I'm looking forward to more.”

“First of all, thank you so much for this wonderful conference. I had no idea that it was going to be so good! :)) I found an amazing community to stay in touch, share and collaborate with in the future. I truly hope the conference will continue further into the future. Again, thank you so much, what an honour!”

“The Neuroscience and Yoga Online Conference was truly exceptional because of the quality and inclusivity. I would recommend the conference to those coming from any background and all levels of interest and expertise in both neuroscience and yoga. The conference was extremely well-organized, easy to follow, and a fantastic opportunity to learn and make connections.”

“For those beginning to teach, this is the sort of information often missing from 200 level teacher training programs. Too often claims are made in yoga without a scientific basis. This conference should be a requirement for those wishing to receive a teacher training certificate. Attending is also likely to motivate you to continue learning what the evolving science has to saw about the practice of yoga.”

“This was such an insightful and informative event! I'm completely honest when I say that there were so many golden nuggets in there, and as a yoga teacher myself, I got to learn about the scientific aspects of fear, pain, brain functions and more, which I take as an enrichment to my teaching. There should be more of that during Yoga Teacher Trainings! I also want to mention that all the knowledge was accessible. I also got inspired to read up on their other research studies, and am currently doing that! I would most definitely attend another Neuroscience and Yoga Online Conference.”

Do you Have questions?

Why an online research program?

Great question! High quality science is expensive, and neuroscience and yoga research is notoriously underfunded. Yet yoga students spend >$16 billion per year on classes. Starting and ending yoga classes—which students already pay for—with simple and fun neuroscience games allows our team to deliver high quality yoga experiences while simultaneously advancing scientific insight on the effects of yoga. Our goal with the Neuroscience and Yoga Online Research Program is to use technology to make this virtual, cheaper, more widely understood, and accessible to people all over the world.

For participants, you will be able to take top-notch yoga classes, learn about neuroscience and yoga, and contribute to high quality research.

Why neuroscience and yoga?

From our anecdotal experience, we all know yoga affects the nervous system in some way. Yet, much more high quality science is needed to understand why and how. And even worse, we are in a time when science misinformation runs rampant, especially on social media. Yogis will benefit from understanding science, and this will result in evidence-based conclusions and implementations of yoga. Ultimately, this program hopes to accomplish more connection between scientists and yogis.

Who is this online research program for?

This program is for people interested in how yoga affects the brain. Your level of practice can be anywhere from beginner to advanced, even to world-renowned teacher.

You will be able to take outstanding yoga classes, contribute to high quality research, and learn the science of what underlies your experience of yoga, such as better mental health, less anxiety, decreased pain, faster reaction times, and improved attention.

What is "NeuroYogaNYC"?

NeuroYogaNYC is *not* another new style of yoga. We are a neuroscience outreach organization based in New York City that works to bridge the yoga world and the neuroscience world. We do this by hosting events, replicating hands-on neuroscience experiments, conducting research, and sharing resources through multimedia. We aspire to support yoga students in their journey of studying the self—from a neuroscience perspective. Come study with our expert MDs, PhDs, and students in this newest project, the Neuroscience and Yoga Online Research Pilot!

I'm on a tight budget. How can I join?

We want this pilot and this knowledge to be accessible to as many people as possible. This means we designed the program to be affordable.

The price for the yoga classes AND neuroscience knowledge at the end is frankly a great deal! However, to accommodate every possible budget, we do offer ways of reducing the cost. Reach out to us on the support page below! This will include sharing the pilot with others as a way to reduce the cost.

I'm not located in the United States. Can I still join?

Yes!! Absolutely! This program is designed to be global, and we want a diverse group of people join.

Please note: all content will be available in English, Italian, and Spanish.

Neuroanatomy and neurophysiology of yoga Revealed By The Experts

Your journey to this knowledge could go one of two ways:

Long and Difficult Way

  • You could spend countless hours trying to subscribe to journals, reading scientific papers riddled with jargon, and piecing together the relevant content. You could also try to learn this from non-experts, such as the YouTube rabbit hole, but miss critical details.

Efficient and Simple Way

  • You can join our program and not only contribute to research but also learn from it.

MEET tHE TEAM

Jonathan Rosenthal, MD

Hi, I’m Jonathan.

I'm a resident physician neurologist, and a yoga student of Sri Dharma Mittra. Since 2014, I have been passionate about neuroscience and yoga.

I started studying neuroscience and yoga—separately—as a teenager. It took me until my 20s to begin to appreciate their connection. How does yoga affect our memory? How does yoga affect our mood? How does yoga affect our self-regulation? How does yoga affect neurologic diseases like stroke, Parkinson's, multiple sclerosis, and epilepsy? These are all questions I hope to make progress on.

I look forward to getting to know everyone and advancing our collective understanding of yoga's effects on the nervous system.

Paolo Pacciolla, MS

Hi, I’m Paolo.

I'm a neurobiology graduate from the University of Pavia, Italy. From 2015 to 2017 I worked with the University of Barcelona and The Bellvitge Biomedical Research Institute (IDIBELL) on neuronal regeneration studying the rewiring of olfactory glomeruli. From 2017 to 2021 I conducted clinical research at Policlinico San Matteo as study coordinator and data manager at O.C.T.O. (Oncological Clinical Trial Office), Amyloidosis Research and Treatment Centre, and CTO-OH (OncoHematologic Clinical Trial Office).

I have practiced Hatha Yoga since 2011 and started teaching in 2014. In 2020, I published an educational book “Psicopatologia dei Mistici” about the possible anatomical and physiological bases of the altered state of consciousness.

Since 2022, I have decided to dedicate myself entirely to teaching—putting together my knowledge as neuroscientist and yoga teacher in order to give  students a more complete understanding of their body and mind.
